CARLIE C. SHAFER

Graveside service for Carlie C. Shafer, 73, of Rusk was at 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23, at Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Lee Welch officiating under the direction of Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Shafer died Feb. 22. She was born Feb. 5, 1934, in Carriere, Miss. She was a resident of Rusk for 11 years and formerly resided in Pass Christian, Miss. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Long Beach, Miss.

Mrs. Shafer had a Doctoral Degree in Education. She devoted her career to the education of children and as a university professor played an instrumental role in the development of future teachers. She later was an elementary school principal.

Preceding her in death were her father, Oliver Harvey Carroll, and husband, Paul Shafer in 2004.

Survivors are her mother, Pearl Carroll of Rusk; two daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Jay Colclazier of Billings, Mont. and Melissa and Patrick Rathbun of Rusk; four grandchildren, Christina and David Colclazier of Billings, Mont. and Nicole and Amanda Rathbun of Rusk.
