Commissioners approve purchase, sale of equipment
Parrish appointed to serve on Access board of directors

Cherokee County Commissioners met Monday morning in the county courtroom at Rusk to accept bids for the purchase and sale of county equipment.

A bid from Dogwood Sales in Palestine was approved for $108,965 for the purchase of MF 5455 tractor and other equipment. A bid was accepted from Performance Truck of Lufkin for the purchase of a dump truck with an ox dump body for $61,492.72.

Bids were accepted for the sale of the following equipment: John Deere 6405 cab tractor from Dixie Surplus Machinery Inc. at Pollock, La. for $21,638; Ricky Brown Trucks and Equipment in Jacksonville for $25,359 for a TS 100 New Holland Cab Tractor and a 15 ft. modern flex wing mower for $2,812; Oliver's Repair Shop at Alto for $3,120 for two 10 ft. right wing side mowers and a seven ft. Howse mower for $200.

In another matter, Harold R. (Buz) Parrish was re-appointed to the board of directors for ACCESS. Jason Mott was approved for appointment as a reserve deputy sheriff. The laying of utility lines in precincts 2 and 4 was approved.

Representatives of Allied Waste North American Inc. met with the court to seek a certificate for order and order for capital improvements to the firm's existing solid waste facilities located in 31 counties in Texas. The company is in the process of making application for tax exempt bonds and approval of all municipalities in its service area is required. No local expansions are expected.

Reports from all constables were accepted. Two employees of the county judge's office were approved to attend the NETDATA conference April 3-5 in Dallas.

No action was taken following an executive session concerning legal matters. Another executive session planned for Wednesday was cancelled.

The next meeting of the commissioners court will be at 10 a.m. Monday, March 12 in the county courtroom.

Attending the meeting were Judge Chris Davis; Commissioners Mary Gregg, Kevin Pierce, Moody Glass and Byron Underwood; County Clerk Laverne Lusk; and County Auditor L.H. Crockett.
