Aaron Foxworth, a fifth grader, recently won the Rusk Intermediate Spelling Bee. He will represent his campus on Feb. 28 in the District Spelling Bee to be held at Rusk Junior High.
 Debra Dominy to be honored with reception

Austin Bank will honor Debra Dominy for 20 years of service with the bank.

A reception will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 23 in the Austin Bank lobby, 401 N. Main St. in Rusk.

Friends and customers are invited to attend.

Confederate grave marker dedicated in Dialville

The Sons of the Confederate Veterans Cross of Saint Andrew Camp #2009 recently dedicated a new military grave marker at Rocky Springs Cemetery in Dialville for Pvt. Josiah Garner, who served in Company E, 7th Texas Infantry.

Pvt. Garner is the great, great-grandfather of camp member Don Folks. A rifle volley and cannon salute were fired in his honor.

Internationally renowned nutritionist speaks in Tyler

Ron Heagy to speak in Tyler

Girl Scout cookie booth sales slated for Rusk, Alto

Girl Scout Troop 139 of Rusk and Alto will hold Girl Scout Cookie Booths this weekend. From 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, they will have booths at both Brookshire Bros. Grocery in Rusk and Rick's Quick Stop at the four-way stop in Alto. On Sunday, Feb. 25, the Scouts will sell refreshments of Girl Scout cookies, coffee and soda at the intermission of Cherokee Civic Theatre's performance of "On Golden Pond" from approximately 3 until 4 p.m.

The troop is raising funds for two overnight camping activities this spring. They are also accepting donations to help send cookies to their adopted Army troop in Iraq.

Republican Club meets March 5

The Cherokee County Republican Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday March 5 at the Hot Biscuit Family Restaurant 1407 E. Rusk, Jacksonville.

Judge Bascom Bentley III of the 369th Court will be special guest speaker. All members are encouraged to attend and bring a friend. The public is invited. Questions may be directed to (903) 586-2669

MILITARY Teresa Hedger graduates from advanced training

Airman Teresa N. Hedger graduated from the C-130 Aircraft Mission Ready Airman Course at Little Rock Air Force Base, Jackson, Ark.

The students learned to perform scheduled inspections, functional checks, repairs, and preventive maintenance on aircraft and aircraft installed equipment.

Students ensure that the aircraft has been properly serviced with fuel, hydraulic fluids, and liquid oxygen, and accept responsibility for maintaining the C-130 aircraft in an operationally ready condition to meet mission requirements. Airman Hedger is the daughter of John D. Hedger and Joan Schoclar of Route 2, Alto. In 2002, the airman graduated from Alto High School.
