If it is selected by the U.S. Department of Transportation, I-69 will move from the drawing board to completion faster. Texas Department of Transportation will conduct hearings later this year along the possible corridor from the Rio Grand Valley and Laredo to Texarkana to get public input on the environmental process. Texas State Railroad is up and running The Texas State Railroad will be making runs on Saturdays in February. The train will depart from Rusk at 11 a.m. and will return at 3:30 p.m. The train will be powered by the diesel engine. Train rides will only originate from Rusk until March. Caddoan Mounds to hold formal tours Formal museum and trail tours will be held at Caddoan Mounds State Historic Site beginning at 9 a.m. March 3 and April 21. These days will be reserved to devote three hours to a formal tour of the Caddoan Mounds State Historic Site museum and 0.7 mile trail. The museum will not only have its normal display of murals, pictures and artifacts but will have an assortment of historical pictures, including verbal interpretation of the site's archeological past studies. A thorough examination will be given in the importance of archaeological research and surveys, purpose in the importance of this historic site and connection to how modern day history can relate. TJC announces fall honor roll students Tyler Junior College has recognized students named to the President's and Dean's lists for their academic excellence during the Fall 2006 semester. The President's List is composed of students who complete a minimum of 12 hours of college-level courses with a 4.0 grade-point average. The Dean's List is composed of students who complete a minimum of 12 hours of college-level courses with a minimum 3.3 grade-point average. Ruskite named to dean's list at Sam Houston Reginal McGowan II of Rusk has been named to the dean's list at Sam Houston State University for the fall semester. He is a senior majoring in kinesiology. To be listed on the dean's list a student must have a grade point average of 3.5 or above. Rusk 1st Baptist hosts Shiloh quartet Rusk First Baptist Church will host an evening of inspiring Christian music when they open their doors for Shiloh in concert beginning at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25. Celebrating 10 years of ministry and considered by many as the premier male quartet from the State of Texas, Shiloh is a group who is definitely "on the rise" in Christian music today. Free GPS class offered in Nacogdoches A growing number of hunters and fishermen are using global positioning systems (GPS) for everything from finding their way out of the woods to pinpointing that great crappie hole. OES honors Mary Goff The Rusk Chapter No. 79 of the Order of the Eastern Star will honor member, Mary Goff, on her Mary Goff, on her 95th birthday. The reception will be from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, at the Masonic Hall on North Main, next door to the Pizza Hut. The public is invited and no gifts are requested. Tickets go on sale for 'On Golden Pond' Patron tickets for the Cherokee Civic Theatre production of "On Golden Pond" went on sale at 9 a.m. Monday, Feb. 12. Tickets for the general public go on sale at 9 a.m. Monday Feb. 19. The Cherokee Civic Theatre had rated the show as PG because of some of the language. "We have toned it down, but Norman is a salty cuss," said Sheilah O'Heaney, theatre president. The production is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Feb. 23-24 and 2 p.m. Feb. 25. The matinee performance will be special for the Cherokee Civic Theatre. It's their second annual Red Hat Sunday. The Alto Chapter has issued an attendance challenge to other Red Hat chapters in the area. Alto won last year with the most members attending the play. All Red Hat Chapters are urged to attend. Also, during this performance, Girl Scout troop #139 will have a special cookie booth set up. during intermission, at approximately 3 p.m. They will sell cookies as refreshments and also by the box.
