Dr. Ross will speak for event East Texas Genealogical Society will meet at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10 at the Tyler Public Library in the Taylor Auditorium to hear Dr. John Ross speak in conjunction with Black History Month. Dr. Ross will present a program called "East Texas African-American History and Genealogy: Historical Commission Resources." Dr. Ross is the academic dean at the Lon Morris College, Jacksonville. He has a Ph.D. from Texas Tech University, specializing in Southern and Black History. Dr. Ross has been on the faculty at Lon Morris College since 1978, other than for a sabbatical in 1985-86 when he was a Fulbright teacher at Napier College, Edinburgh, Scotland. His family has lived in Cherokee County since before the county was created in 1846. He will present a general overview of the African- American experience in East Texas.
