God, government, religion discussed at meeting

Charlie Burfoot introduced John Nickle who brought a program on "Patriotism and Morality." He said the U.S. Post Office has a new ordinance which does not allow for posters which contain information about a church dinner, a church revival or anything about God or religion to be displayed in the post offices.

He advised all present to write on the letters or packages they mail 'In God We Trust' and 'God Bless America' since they cannot stop citizens from doing that at this time. One person at the meeting stated 'America Bless God' should be placed on all of members' mail outs.

Certainly all these statements concerning God should be within the hearts, especially since this country was founded on God. Without God there would never have been an America.

Mr. Nickle brought out his guitar and entertained with a song he had written entitled 'There Ain't No Place Like Home'. The song was indeed very entertaining.

Mr. Nickle spoke several minutes on how American morality has fallen. " We are sad that Old Glory has fallen so close to the ground.

Our embassies have been stoned, our diplomats are often in fear of their lives, and during the last 15 years we have been involved in many conflicts which spilled American blood on foreign soils, our young service men and women are dying for ideas which do not seem to mean much to numerous citizens of America anymore," Mr. Nickle said.

"The problem is America's troubles lies within so many of our people who are not willing to take a stand for the great God fearing country of America, which we once knew," he continued.

Bobbie Burch and Billy Watson reported to the club on the Relay of Life meeting which they attended in Rusk on Monday, Jan. 29.

Rusk Lions Club is now officially signed up to be a sponsor of the Relay For Life fight against cancer.
