Eye bank training session set

An eye bank training session is planned for Feb. 14 in Midland to obtain information on eye screening to assist young people in communities who need glasses but cannot afford them. Members of the Rusk Lions Club were encouraged to attend this program.

Guests attending the club meeting were three Leo Club members and Terrie Daniel, counselor, from Rusk High School. Leo Club members were Courtney Foreman, president; Kinsey Gresham, vice-president; and David Robbins, secretary.

Tim Timmons, the Leo Club manager and Bobbie Burch, Lions Club secretary arranged the meeting so that the Lion's Club could present them with the New Leo Club Banner.

Vic Whadford introduced Tony Dennis who spoke on 'At Home Health Care', which can be reached at (903) 592-8001 or 1-877-My Nurse or www.athomehealth. org .

Within each community there must be a need for one or more of these services; skilled nursing, physical therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, and medical social workers.

Mr. Dennis said there must be a skilled need for medication teaching and monitoring, exacerbation of disease process, post surgical care, diabetic management, pain management, cardiac management, infusion therapy, and catheter care.

The patient must be homebound. An effort to leave home requires a considerable taxing due to illness or injury. The patient may be able to leave home (with assistance) for short periods of time. Status can be temporary.

Skilled nursing services can include glucose monitoring, post surgical care, catheter care, assist patients with personal care, nutritional therapy to enhance wound healing, photographic reporting and ostomy care.

Home support services may be offered hourly or 24 hour care, for such purposes as medication reminders, meal preparation, shopping and errands, respite care, light housekeeping, grooming, companionship- home or hospital. Pediatric Home Health Care Services are led by experienced pediatric nursing staff members who help keep chronically ill children out of the hospital by providing quality skilled care at home and providing ongoing instruction and support to parents and caregivers in the home.

Payor sources include Medicare, major insurance, Medicaid specialty programs, (CAP, MDCP, CSHCN) and private pay. Community Service Programs are conducted through the Texas Department for Aging and Disability Services, Community Based Alternatives (CBA), Primary Home Care (PHC) and Family Care (FM) If a homebound person has need for any of these services they should contact the numbers mentioned.
