Eagles, Lady Eagles struggle against Central, Hudson

The Rusk Eagles went into the locker room leading one of the top teams in District 20- AAA, but when the dust settled, the Hudson Hornets had stung the Feathered Flock 64-49.

"We played well for three quarters and then the wheels fell off," said Head Coach Tracy Kincade. "Hudson is a good team. I give them credit."

Horrace Lewis anchored the Eagle offense from the post position with 13 points and 11 rebounds. J.J. Session helped the offense along with five points and five assists.

Demarcus Skinner made some big defensive plays for the Eagles with three steals on the evening.

The outcome of this game propels Hudson to a 6-1 district record, while the Eagles fall to 2-5. Rusk faces Diboll and Huntington at home in the coming days. Both games are must-win for the Eagles if they are to see post-season play this year.

Both teams had their opponents on ice at one point during this game which was played early on Tuesday, Jan. 16 to avoid an incoming winter storm.

Central jumped to a quick 21-13 lead in the 1st quarter, but Rusk came back throughout the rest of the game. The Eagles actually took the lead in the 4th quarter, but Rusk was called for a couple of fouls, sending Central's Kyle Cook to the free-throw line. Cook was 9 for 10 in free-throws on the evening.

Lewis led the Eagle offense with 15 points and was three for four from the free-throw line. Brent Jones had 13 points and two three-pointers. Other scorers for the Eagles were Session (9), Skinner (7), John Michael Jackson (6), John David Beard (2) and Eddie Harris (1).

Lady Eagles lose games to

Hudson and Central

The Hudson Lady Hornets rallied over the Rusk Lady Eagles 42-18 Friday. Hudson got a 14-0 start over Rusk.

The Lady Eagles kept pace with Hudson throughout the 2nd and 3rd quarters, but the Lady Hornets pulled away in the 4th quarter by outscoring Rusk 14-4.

Jasmine Harris led the offense with 11 points. Rachel Hicks had three points, going three-for-four from the freethrow line and Charnell Franklin had three points and nine rebounds. Brittney Session made one point.

The game against Central on Jan. 16 got off to a great start for the Lady Eagles. Rusk's fullcourt trap led to several Lady Bulldog turnovers, and Rusk opened up with a 10-0 run on the heels of Harris to take a big 1st quarter lead.

Central switched to a full court zone defense which turned the tables in the 2nd quarter. When the smoke cleared, Central had come away with a 63-26 win.

Harris was the lead scorer with 15 points. Sheena Henderson and Amanda Session had four points each. Hicks scored three points from the foul line.

The Rusk boys and girls play at home against Huntington Friday and Diboll Tuesday. Boys varsity games will be aired on KWRW 97.7 FM.
