Alto Middle School students place in UIL Academic meet

The Alto Middle School UIL academic team recently competed in the district meet.

The one-act play team, consisting of Renee McDonald, Daniel Ball, Rhett Gresham, Dominique Finley, Taylor Kessinger, Gedarcius Martin, Adam Davis, Scott Cox and Breanna DeSpain took third place.

Adam was awarded the Best Actor honors while Taylor and Rhett were honorable mention actors.

The Maps, Graphs and Charts team, consisting of Kayla Simpson, Daniel, Rhett and Hillary Lindsey placed third in the competition.

The Calculator team placed second in district. Team members were Kierra Heart, Kassandra Guerro and Breanna.

In the individual events, Kayla placed third in Modern Oratory while Katina Sturns placed sixth.

Breanna placed second in seventh grade Oral Reading while Amber Ross placed sixth. In eighth grade Oral Reading Gerald Salzarulo placed second.

Daniel placed sixth in Number Sense. Rhett placed second in Impromptu Speaking while Regina Flowers placed fifth.

Dominique placed fourth in Dictionary Skills, while Shaquavia Breedlove won district in seventh-grade listening skills. Jarrett Shaw took sixth place in eighth grade listening skills.

Nineteen competitors from Alto Middle School were honored for their excellence in academic competition.
