Construction nears $1 million in 2006

Rusk building permits for 2006 totaled $978,465, compared to $1,165,000 in 2005.

Of the 2005 permits issued, values of home construction totaled $948,000, almost as much as the total construction in 2006. Another $88,000 was issued in 2005 for residential additions.

In 2006, permits for new homes totaled $472,365; additions, $3,700 and portable buildings and garages, $25,400 totaling $501,465.

Commercial permits totaled $477,000 with $417,000 of that amount for new construction and $60,000 for remodeling and additions.

Building permits in 2004 totaled $3,885,118; $8.3 million in 2003; and almost $5 million in 2002.

Permits for the construction of the new First Baptist Church and the Rusk ISD auditorium classroom addition at Rusk High School were issued in 2004. The new church was permitted for $1.5 million and the auditoriumclassroom with furnishings at $3 million.

+State Farm Insurance/Austin Young, 1004 N. Main, a new construction $227,000 issued March 6 to Berry & Clay

+John Chapman, 911 Hill St., a new construction metal building $16,500 issued March 27 to Sunday's Metal Building Systems & Welding

+Family Dollar Store, 1106 N. Main, $150,000, rebuilding store after it burned, issued on May 15 to Lion Construction Co.

+Harry's Building Materials Inc., 103 Cody St., $70,000, new construction issued May 22 with Harry's Building Materials as contractor

+Kent Stanley, 365 Firetower Road, a metal private garage, $6,700 issued on May 24 with contractor Kent Stanley

+Footbridge Bakery, 104 W. Fifth St., repair to commercial building issued May 24 for $1,000 to Footbridge Bakery

+Sandra Thomason, 420 N. Dickinson Dr., new commercial construction issued July 26 for $40,000 to contractor Max Thomason

+Thompson Oil (Steve Thompson), 706 Dickinson, commercial partial remodeling for $59,000 issued on Sept. 8 to JRC Construction

+Vida Meiners, 439 E. Fifth St., portable building for $2,000 issued Sept. 15 to Vida Meiners contractor

+Doug Byfield, 305 Guinn Place Drive, a pagoda outside altar issued Oct. 6 for $200 to Doug Byfield
