Food Check Out Week will recognize American farmers

Feb. 4-10 is being recognized as Food Check Out Week. This means it takes most Americans about five weeks to make enough money to buy food for their family for the entire year. In contrast, it takes until April to earn enough to pay taxes.

Cherokee County Farm Bureau will sponsor a "Farmer's Share" lunch. This will be a meal that costs what the farmers receive for the raw product they produce in that meal. The public is invited to Southland Feed Store in Rusk on Feb. 6 and the Southland Feed Store in Jacksonville on Feb. 8 to celebrate.

Proceeds from the event will go to the local food pantries in Cherokee County.
