      Tosh Insurance Agency has been named Rusk Business of the Month for September. Don Jones and Carol Stovall, owners, are joined by staff, friends and chamber members for the presentation. Tosh Insurance has served East Texas since 1926 with offices in Rusk and Alto.

Voters will decide charter revisions

      Nine proposed charter revisions will be considered by Rusk voters in May 2008. Members of the Rusk City Council are expected to call the election at their October regular meeting. The proposals will be presented to the them at that time by a charter review committee, chaired by Forrest Phifer. The committee met Sept. 11 to finalize recommendations to the council.

Fine totals $16,200 for travel trailers
      The clock is still ticking in a suit filed by the City of Rusk against W.R. Bowden and his son, Kevin Bowden. In June the city council set a July 1 deadline against the Bowdens and established a $200 per day fine for every day that trailers are located on the North Main Street property. As of Sept. 14 the suit is still pending in 2nd Judicial Court of Judge Dwight Phifer.

Sheltered workshop income tops $900,000 with Wilsonart contract
      JACKSONVILLE - Year end reports and plans for 2008 highlighted a directors' meeting for the Cherokee County Mental Retardation Association (CCMRA) Sept. 7. President Jim Cromwell presided and a budget for 2008 was adopted. "We will surpass $900,000 in contract income this year, with clients' payroll exceeding $180,000," said Executive Director Elton McCune.

Commissioners adopt 61-cent tax rate
Cherokee County budget set at $19 million

      Cherokee County commissioners met briefly Monday morning to adopt a 61 cent tax rate. The rate is one cent less than the 62 cent rate used last year. Commissioner Kevin Pierce made the motion to adopt the new rate, which was seconded by Commissioner Mary Gregg.
