Young Alto heart transplant recipient celebrates a welcomed 3rd birthday Thursday
S ometimes a miracle happens just when it is needed. Something was terribly wrong. Two-year old Hannah Collie wasn't well. 2 public hearings called Sept. 10, 17 for tax rate

Following a public hearing Monday morning Cherokee County Commissioners adopted a $19,228,634 county budget. The budget will be financed with a 61 cent tax rate, which is expected to be adopted next month. Two public hearings will be held on the tax rate, the first on Sept. 10 and the second on Sept. 17. Following a public hearing Monday evening the Rusk school board adopted a $1.1575 district tax rate and approved a $15,547,395 district budget. The tax rate is 28.5 cents less than the $1.4425 set for last year. Of the $1.1575 rate, $1.04 will go toward maintenance and operation and 11.75 cents to the interest and sinking fund for debt payment. More...

Funeral for Senetta Yvette Mallard, 48, of Rusk, was at 2 p.m. Thursday at Mount Olive Baptist Church with the Rev. Mertis M. Bartley officiating. Burial was in Rusk Memorial Cemetery. The Rusk High School sophomores, class of 2010, held a back-to-school party at the Rusk City Pool recently. They enjoyed swimming, volleyball, music, food, drinks and door prizes. The sophomore class has 173 students registered to attend school this year, making it the largest class at Rusk High School.
