VBS planned at Alto church
      Calvary Tabernacle United Pentecostal Church in Alto will host a one-day vacation Bible school from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25.       JACKSONVILLE - An open house is scheduled for 1 - 3 p.m. Sunday at the new Trinity Mother Frances Fitness Center on the Jacksonville medical campus on U.S. Highway 69 South. Chief appraiser releases certified values for county's taxing entities
      Lee Flowers, Cherokee County Appraisal District chief appraiser, has announced certified tax values for county taxing entities. Property values increased for all county entities except Troup ISD, which showed a drop of $17,197,190 or 3.9 percent from $432,565,343 in 2006 to $415,368,153 in 2007. Troup's ISD rate last year was $1.2850 and this year's effective rate, is $1.

Jones leads electric group
      Greg Jones, general manager of Cherokee County Electric Cooperative Association, has been elected chairman of the board of directors of Texas Electric Cooperatives. The statewide organization serves 74 electric cooperatives in Texas. He was elected to the position Aug. 1 during the organization's 67th annual membership meeting in Austin.

Chamber seeks pictures from 50s, early 60s
      The Rusk Chamber of Commerce needs high school pictures from the 50s and early 60s to be copied and displayed at the annual membership banquet in January. The 1950s will be the theme for the banquet. Persons who have snapshots and other photos are asked to loan them to the chamber to be copied. They will be returned to the owner.
