Christ the Redeemer Academy begins Aug. 27
      Registration for the new school year at Christ the Redeemer Church's Christian Academy is underway. School begins Aug. 27. School hours will be 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Monday - Thursday and 8 a.m.- to noon Friday. Before and after school care will be available from 7:30 a.m.- 5 p.m. Christ the Redeemer is in the pre-licensing stage for ages two-four.

Cherokee County schools begin classes on Aug. 27
      All Cherokee County students will begin classes Aug. 27, somewhat later than in previous years. There will be no Labor Day holiday for Rusk and Alto students and Justice of the Peace Teresa Phifer said, "Truancy rules will be enforced." Students at Jacksonville, New Summerfield and Wells will have a holiday on Sept. 3.

Wells ISD forms its PTA
      Wells Independent School District Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is being formed for the 2007-08 school year. Bylaws of the Wells PTA are available for review in the Wells ISD offices. The first general meeting of the organization will be held at 6 p.m. Aug. 30 in the school cafeteria.

IRS ruling does not affect teachers this school year
      Teachers and other school employees will not be affected with the new deferred compensation rules this school year. IRS spokesperson Clay Sanford in Dallas said, "Many teachers are busy preparing for the start of school so we don't want them to be worried about this issue as the summer winds down.
