Having a ball
      As temperatures hover near triple digits, kids are cooling their heels and having a ball at the Rusk City Swimming Pool. The pool is open daily through Aug. 25; school begins on Aug. 27. Hours for the final weekend of the summer season, Labor Day weekend, will be released soon.

Kellie Wilcox is new credit union CEO
      Kellie Wilcox is the new CEO at Cherokee County Teachers Federal Credit Union in Rusk. Mrs. Wilcox was appointed to the position by the credit union board on Aug. 1. She has served as interim manager since Larry Long resigned in March to accept a position with Austin Bank.

1-vehicle accident
      Driver fatigue appears to have contributed to an early-morning accident Tuesday on U.S. Highway 69 between Rusk and Jacksonville. Andrea Ford, 23, lost control of her Plymouth Neon as she travelled southbound near the Cherokee County Electric Co-op.
