Wells Independent School District Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is being formed for the 2007-08 school year. Bylaws of the Wells PTA are available for review in the Wells ISD offices. Classmates came from throughout Texas and one arrived from California. That evening a dinner was served by the Methodist Men at First UMC. There was entertainment, visiting and music. More ... The Stella Hill Memorial Library is buzzing as the Alto Thursday Study Club had one of its best patron drives ever for the support of the library and much needed cleaning and book organization was performed, making space available for more books. More ... Donald Woodard of the Heritage Center of Cherokee County, left, and J. Frank Brunt show off guns loaned to the museum by the Brunt family. Mr. Brunt's father, the late Frank Brunt ,used the guns when he was sheriff of Cherokee County and later Smith County. The pistol, a Colt 38 Super 1911 model, was used in a shoot-out with a man at Wells in 1953. The rifle is a Winchester 30-30 model 94. Other memorabilia was also loaned. More ... Descendants of the late Mr. and Mrs. V. L. Dyess met for their annual family reunion July 4 at the camp house of Forrest and Rita Dyess in Rusk. There were 51 family members and 11 visitors present. Prior to the meal family members said the pledge to the U.S. Flag. A meal of hamburgers, hot dogs, desserts, homemade ice cream and sno-cones was served. More ...
