Wilcox family gathers for 50th reunion
      The Wilcox family celebrated its 50th family reunion April 27-28 at the old Bulah schoolhouse. The event began Friday, April 27, with some of the family members gathering at the school to clean and set-up for the following day.

     Monte Ethington cuts the ribbon during grand opening festivities for the addition of CellularOne to his business at Chapman's Drug. Holding the ribbon are PO Ford, Glenda Johnson, Mr. Ethington, Mayor Angela Raiborn and Bob Goldsberry.

Alto ISD buys new school bus
      Lee Pearman and Jay Jones were sworn in as Alto ISD Board of Trustee members during Monday's regular meeting of the school board. Dr. Ray DeSpain, superintendent, wasted no time in getting them busy. Freddy Johnson was reelected as board president. Greg Duplichain was re-elected vice president and Britton Tilley was re-elected as board secretary. All were elected by unanimous votes.

Pool perfect
     A member of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice work squad manicures the grounds at the Rusk City Pool and Rusk Civic Center. The swimming pool will have a "soft" opening June 2 with a grand opening June 8. The work squad is painting the bottom of the pool and continuing improvements to the facility.

Tomato Fest to feature new contests

      Every year, thousands of people flock to Jacksonville for the annual Jacksonville Tomato Festival. Tourists who visit this year's festival, to be held June 8-9, will notice a new event. "The newest thing to the Tomato Fest is the Tomato Peeling Contest, where contestants actually peel tomatoes with their teeth," said Peggy Renfro of the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce.

Wells man inducted in earth society
      Seth Hamilton was recently inducted into the Society of Sigma Gamma Epsilon on March 27, at Stephen F. Austin State University. This is a national honor society for the earth sciences founded in 1935.
