Rep. Chuck Hopson expresses frustration with TPWD officials in Austin
By a 135-3 vote, House Bill 3113, which will create the Texas State Railroad Operating Authority, was passed by the Texas House of Representatives. HB 3113 is the companion bill to Senate Bill 1659, authored by freshman Senator Robert Nichols (R-Jacksonville). The bill, which set the date for transfer of the railroad to the authority on Sept. 1, is pending Governor Rick Perry's approval. More...

Rusk has a new mayor. Angela Raiborn defeated incumbent Suzann McCarty Saturday by eight votes. Ms. Raiborn received 160 votes and Ms. McCarty, 152. Rusk Eagle baseball/ softball camp slated The Rusk Eagle baseball/softball camp has been scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon, June 4-8 at Rusk High School. Emphasis will be placed on hitting, throwing and running. Radar guns will be used to assess throwing speed and campers will be able to see themselves on video to make any corrections needed to become a better player. More...

Bryce Isaacs ranked 7th nationally
The seventh nationally ranked drag racer will graduate from Rusk High School May 25. Bryce Isaacs will walk across the stage, but not before he competes in the Lucas Oil Series competition at the Cherokee County Motorsports Park May 18-20 in Rusk. Bryce is ranked seventh in Division 4, a division which features thousands of racers from all over the United States. More...
