Commissioners discuss spending caps

      L. H. Crockett, Cherokee County auditor, discussed caps on spending at the Monday morning commissioners court meeting in the county courtroom. He distributed a list of reasons that the cap would hurt. The list was compiled by the Texas Association of Counties.

Rusk cancels sewer project

      The City of Rusk will discontinue its participation in a Texas Community development Program contract for sewer improvements on Crockett Street. The council met at 1 p.m. Monday to vote on the project. The city's action came after an e-mail was received from engineer Tracy Hicks that prices for supplies were going up.

Rusk EDC plans Nov. 12 election

      The Rusk Economic Development Corporation board of directors made plans Monday noon to call an election on Nov. 12 to change the city's economic development half-cent revenue. Currently, the city collects a half-cent sales tax for 4A economic development projects. Voters will be asked to change the city's economic development tax revenue from the more restrictive 4A to 4B.
