Jones-Purma
     The engagement of Kristina Gayle Jones and Jesse Orion Purma is announced by their parents, Mark and Kerrie Jones of Alto, and Joe and Judy Purma of Taneyville, Mo. The wedding will be held April 28 at Playa del Carmen, Mexico. The bride-elect has a BS in science from Texas A & M and an MS in physical therapy from TWU. She is currently employed as a physical therapist with the Harris County Hospital District. Mr. Purma is a graduate of the College of the Ozarks with a degree in aviation technology and is employed as a pilot with Continental Express of Houston.

Couple weds March 22 in Palestine
      Shannon Snowden and Trey Crosby were married March 22 in Palestine. The bride is the daughter of Martha and Bobby Snowden of Lufkin. Mr. Crosby is the son of Fay and Bill Hudson of Alto and Cindy and Dean Crosby of Palestine. The bride is employed with TXU in Palestine and her husband is employed by TDCJ, Palestine.

LIBRARY STUDY CLUB
Program on crosses presented at March13 meeting
      Members of the Library Study Club met March 13 at First Presbyterian Church. Ollie Parrott, program presenter, discussed "The Cross." She began her program with an invitation for each member to tell of a cross in her possession which has a special meaning.

Spring clean-up in Rusk will be April 28, May 5
      Rusk spring clean-up days have been scheduled for 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays, April 28 and May 5 at the city barn on U.S. Highway 69 and Conley Park. The dumpsters are only available to those persons living within the city limits or who are on city water service. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality stringent regulations will be enforced.

Men of Power event scheduled at West Union
      Men of Power will attend a weekend event April 20-21 at the West Union Faith Ministry in Rusk. The church is located at Beale and Bradley Streets. The event will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 20, and conclude with a service beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 21. Speaker for Friday night will be Pastor Horrace Williams, Sweet Union Baptist Church in Jacksonville. Host Pastor Jimmy L.

Alto ISD mulls hurricane shelter operations at AHS
Board tables issue to ensure campus safety
      The Hurricane Rita evacuations of 2005 highlighted the need to be prepared in case of an emergency evacuation. The Alto ISD Board of Trustees deliberated the initial phases of entering into an agreement with the American Red Cross for use of the Alto High School (AHS) gymnasium and cafeteria as a shelter during Monday's regular meeting.

Cookies given to Good Sam
      Members of Rusk/Alto Girl Scout Troop 139 had a great Girl Scout Cookie sale and many people outside the troop are benefitting from it as well. During the sale, the Scouts collected donations of cookies to be given away as a "Gift of Sharing." When more than 100 boxes of cookies were collected, the girls voted to split the donations between their adopted troop in Iraq and local people in need.

Christ the Redeemer finds new home at First Baptist's old site
