LMC Dance Team places
     The Lon Morris College Dance Team attended the American Dance/Drill Team Collegiate Nationals Competition in Denton in early April. In the Collegiate Soloist Division, first runner-up went to Katherine Segapeli of Shertz. Charlea Grundy of Jacksonville, Jodi Hicks of Deer Park and Jenny Harlow of Trinity all received division I soloist ratings. The Lon Morris Dance Team received a division I rating and placed 5th. Participants included the soloists listed above as well as Deidra Wallace of Jacksonville, Ancheska Parchman of Tyler, Crashanda Hubbard of Center and Layna Hamilton of Trinity. They are under the direction of Amanda Holloway.

Cherokee County Relay for Life is April 27-28 at Mauldin Field
      Cherokee County's America Cancer Society Relay For Life will be from 7 p.m. April 27 to 7 a.m. April 28 at Jacksonville High School Mauldin Field. Survivor registration and reception begins at 6 p.m. April 27. Theme this year is…NASCAR, as participants race for a cure. "There is no finish line until we find it," said Cynthia Kline, 2008 RFLchairman.

      Marie Whitehead was guest speaker for the March 7 Rusk Rotary meeting. Mrs. Whitehead and her late husband, Emmett, purchased the Cherokeean in 1950. From the forming of Cherokee County in 1846 to the first ill-fated day that the State Railroad attempted to choo-choo in the 1960s, she told of a historic community that has much to be proud of.
