50th anniversary
     Emadean and Joe French of Maydelle recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. The couple was married Feb. 9, 1957, in Rusk. Their children include Doug and Paula French, Dale and Sarah French and Deanna Cox. Grandchildren are Brandon, Ashley, Brittany, Robert and Katy.

Shiloh is coming to sing
     Shiloh will be in concert at Rusk First Baptist Church at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25. The group came together 10 years ago out of the same church and choir ministry. During the ministry life of Shiloh, they have had the opportunity to perform and minister to hundreds of thousands of individuals nationally, as well as internationally. Linwood Missionary Baptist
Church spreads gospel
      Members of the Linwood Missionary Baptist Church at Alto take their name seriously. The church missionary minded and projects are directed that purpose. The women of the church are involved in witnessing to the gospel of Jesus Christ. They go out the community to witness to the lost. They are also involved in lifting one another up in prayer.

On Golden Pond' opens Friday night
      The Cherokee Civic Theatre will present "On Golden Pond" at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Feb. 23- 24 and 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25. Tickets can be purchased at the Cherokee Theater, 116 West 5th Street, Rusk, or call (903) 683-2131. "We have been working long hours to get ready for the opening night," said Director Don Parsons. " I'm so blessed to have such a dedicated cast.

Health department will provide free flu shots in mass vaccination drill
      The Public Health Preparedness team and volunteers of Cherokee County Health Department (CCHD) will have a mass vaccination drill from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 24 at Nichols Intermediate School in Jacksonville. There is not an epidemic currently in Cherokee County: this is only a drill. The drill will consist of a drive through vaccine clinic.

Happy 95th birthday
     Mary Goff, long-time Rusk resident was honored with a birthday party Friday at Brookshire Bros. Friends and neighbors stopped by to wish her a happy birthday. Among those attending were Mayor Suzann McCarty who presented Mrs. Goff with a city proclamation on her behalf; John Williams, senior bus driver who helps Mrs. Goff with transportation; Mrs. Goff; and Gene Brown, manager of the Rusk Brookshire Bros.

Ag winners at San Antonio
     Rusk High School ag students entering competition last week at the San Antonio Ag Mechanics Project Show included in front from left, Brittany Lankford, Jana Hill, Billie Lynn Covington and Keiera Counahan, who entered a 16 foot mineral feeder, winning fourth place out of more than 30 entries; in back, Joey Marchetti, a hay spear; Will Robinson and Jared Dover, a seven foot concrete feeder, Cody Daniel and Kyle Gunter, 18 foot bumper pull trailer winning fifth place out of 15 entries. Cody Conner, who entered an 18 foot bumper pull trailer is not pictured. The students won prizes valued at $500.

Between a rock...
     Workers with Sonrise Designs place a boulder in the ground at the Footbridge Park in Rusk, continuing the landscaping project initiated by Margaret Perkins. The landscaping company, owned by Scott Davis, has taken several boulders from the foothills of the Ozark Mountains and is placing them in the park to add to the beauty of the area.

      Brookshire Brothers Ltd. announced a restructuring of company leadership. Jerry Johnson, former chief administrative officer, will become president and chief executive officer. Jack Gabriel, executive vicepresident of retail operations, will assume the responsibilities of chief operating officer.

35th annual FAM tour visits Rusk
      The 35th East Texas Familiarization (FAM) Tour kicked off Feb. 7 from Dallas for an eight-day swing through the cities and attractions of the region. Twenty-six cities, supporters of the East Texas group tour manual, have begun rolling out the red carpet and showing off their best as they host 29 group tour planners from 17 companies.
